Ice Country

Ice Country
by David Estes

Dazz and Buff are two teenagers who are still searching for their purpose in life. They spend most of their days drinking at the local pub and getting into trouble. No matter what, though, they always have each other’s back… which often leads them into more trouble. One such occasion leaves the two friends in a serious situation where they have to work for the king in order to earn the silver to repay their debts. But the job is not exactly what they had anticipated…

Dazz’s home life is difficult. His father died a few years ago, leaving his mother to raise three children on her own. Unable to cope with the stress, she turns to powerful street drugs to dull the pain. As a result Dazz’s younger sister, Jolie, is sent to live with the neighbours in a more stable environment. Dazz’s older brother, Wes, works in the mines to support the family and often ridicules Dazz for not contributing to the household. Wes is very pleased when Dazz gets the job for the king, but Dazz leaves out the part that he has to take the job to repay the debts he incurred.

One night after Dazz gets home from work Jolie is kidnapped from the neighbors’ home. Both Dazz and Buff suspect that it has something to do with their sketchy job which leads them to the Fire Country border every evening. They are determined to find Jolie and save her from her kidnappers. Dazz and Buff must figure out why the king kidnapped Jolie while trying to figure out more details about the sketchy trade deals between Ice Country and Fire Country. Dazz still finds himself getting into trouble at work by asking too many questions and he is still unable to control his temper. Eventually Dazz and Buff end up in the jail with a plan to rescue Jolie.

While in jail, Dazz and Buff meet a group of people from Fire Country who are in Ice Country looking for their youngest sister as well. The group includes the characters from the first novel in the series, Fire Country. Dazz quickly finds himself entranced by one of the Heaters and vows to find their sister as well. Will they be able to escape jail or will they be killed for contempt? Will they find Jolie and the other kidnapped children? Is Jolie even still alive? What will happen to the king who is responsible for all of the kidnappings and the sketchy trade deals with Fire Country? Find out in David Estes’ Ice Country.

Other books in The Country Saga include Fire Country and Water & Storm Country. It is a sister-saga to the Dweller series.
